Education

The McGregor, Florida area is part of the excellent Lee County School System. There are a number of elementary schools, middle schools and high schools within the system but students typically attend the schools that are closest to their zip code. In addition, a number of higher educational institutions prosper in the area, such as Rasmussen College, Keiser University, Everest College, San Joaquin Valley College and Everglades University.

Local Attractions

City of Palms Park, located in Fort Myers, is a huge stadium used primarily for baseball but holds the occasional concert. The Boston Red Sox’s spin-off Minor League Team, The Gulf Coast League Red Sox, play games here from April to June. In addition, the Boston Red Sox often use the field as a base for their Spring Training.

The Southwest Florida Museum of History and the Imaginarium Hands on Museum and Aquarium are ideal day trips for families, as they offer fascinating and educational exhibits that are interesting for both parents and children. The Harborside Events Center is the ideal place to hold special events such as weddings and family reunions and is conveniently located in the heart of Fort Myers.

Sun Splash Family Waterpark, located in Cape Coral, is the perfect way to make a splash on a hot summer day. The park is known for its many fun and thrilling water slides; the three most popular (and the newest) are The X-Celerator, a free fall up to 40 feet per second; The Terror Tube, a covered tube that gradually turns into an accelerated driven drop; and The Thunder Bump, an open chute of steep, speed bumps. In addition, the park is home to a number of calmer water slides, an Ecological Boardwalk, numerous cafes and the Family Pool, a gentle sandy beach complete with lawn chairs and palm trees.

Parks & Recreation

A number of golf courses thrive in the McGregor area. One of the most popular is the Eastwood Golf Course. Designed by Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin, this 18-hole course is home to numerous strategically placed bunkers and water holes. The course has consistently been ranked as one of America’s top 100 public golf courses in Golf Digest for the last ten years. Locals also enjoy the Fort Myers Country Club which was designed by famed golf architect Donald Ross in 1916. One of the oldest courses in all of Florida, this course is home to The Coors Open, a Pro-Am golf tournament that is one of the longest running events in Southwest Florida. The course, also referred to as ‘The Fort’, is known for its beautiful setting in the heart of Fort Myers and the unique challenges that it offers to players of all levels. Other nearby golf courses include the Landings Yacht, Golf and Tennis Club, Cypress Lake Country Club, and the Harbor Yacht and Country Club.

As the McGregor area is located right off of the Gulf Coast, a number of gorgeous beaches line the coast and are popular stops for fishing, boating, and sailing.
